Do i need a data plan?

Okay so i'm using a Blackberry curve 8520,and i just wanna ask if a Data plan is required to connect through wifi? I just bought last sunday,and i have no idea how to set things up

What carrier is the phone branded to, and what carrier do you want to use it on?
There are some apps that can go with just wifi, but a lot of them require BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service).

Some carriers will require a data plan once the phone is activated. A data plan does open the phone's full potential for use.

Well...i'll just use Twitter,and facebook.Do they need that?

It depends:

- If u just want to use FB and Tw through the browser, u just need a Wifi hotspot.

If u want to use the apps from App World, u need a BIS or BES data plan.

If u call your phone carrier i guess they'll help and guide u through the process. Happen to me with my carrier.
