defective radio?

I think the radio in my Boost Mobile Curve 8530 is defective. In the same areas where I never had reception problems with the 8330, my data service will simply stop. The 1XEV remains in all caps, but there are no network activity arrows and apps like Facebook and Twitter won't update. I then have to shut off and restart the connection in Connection Manager or reboot to restore service. This morning I had to reboot twice.

Is there some kind of diagnostic I can run to see if the problem lies with the network, or with the radio on my device?
