curve 8530 randomly restarts when not plugged in
I have been having a problem with my phone for about a month now. I have had the phone for about 18 months without any issues, which is great! I have OS 5.0.0.1030 OS and keep the apps regularly updated. (I use CrunchSMS for messaging, but other than that I have very few other extra apps loaded.) I use Pandora constantly while at work and rarely have it unplugged during those times.
The problem that I've had is when I unplug the phone, it doesn't matter what I am doing... but it is usually when I *am* doing something (talking on the phone, sending an SMS, listening to music after having just stepped away from the desk and unplugging the phone - ie full battery charge), the phone will just reboot. After the first reboot, the phone will show a dead battery even though it was just on the charger and had 100% battery power.
Sometimes it will constantly reboot itself until the battery is dead. This past weekend that happened to me. Normally, I plug it into AC power and it restarts just fine. However, I didn't have that charger this weekend and the combination of my car charger and USB to PC charging didn't work for almost all day.
I've spent about a week doing google searches, trying different terms, but everyone else seems to have a problem charging, not when the battery is discharging. I've checked the battery's contacts and it is snug as it has been for the past 18 months. Anyone have any suggestions?
I did notice there is an updated OS, I will give that a try. - 08-21-2011, 08:28 AM #2
Any recent apps that you downloaded?
I feel like that is the problem.Love, Death

Just app updates. I have a suspicion that it could be CrunchSMS as it will popup a stylized messagebox over other applications when a new message comes in. It seems a convenient correlation between when I updated it and when the problem started. But I haven't been able to verify that since I've also updated it since along with the facebook app, bb messenger, google and all the others.
If the OS update doesn't work for me, I will try removing CrunchSMS unless there are other suggestions (that app really is a terrific app and I'd hate to lose it.) - 08-25-2011, 07:40 AM

pnut3844: That's exactly what it was. For anyone who may come across this thread in search of an answer, check your battery. If you can set it on the table and rock the battery, it is swelling and going bad.

Same exact problem
My phone is doing the EXACT same thing. I can be surfing the net, the phone restarts out of the blue after about 2 minutes on a full charge, then when the phone is rebooted, the battery indicator shows red. I can be talking on the phone for 10 minutes with a full battery, then after the call the battery indicator shows red, pretty much dead. People here are saying the battery is going, I hope that's what the problem is.
Easy to solve. The battery kinda rocks on the table, so it might have swelled, kinda of hard to tell. Does the battery rock a lot, or just a bit, barely noticeable?

Its an easy fix, its the battery

This video shows you how to fix it. The battery is loose and you need to trap it with extra padding!
I realized that after I noticed that I put it down on some surface and it restarts.
I hope it helps.
