Exclamation Curve 8520 Connection to pc prob

Ok, I bought a second hand curve 8520 which is running v4.6.1.272 so im trying to update it, i've connected it to my pc (Windows 7) and it will start charging the phone but the pc will not recognise it. I have tried everything google had to throw at me! mass storage on, try update through the phone etc...but nothing is working! i then connected my sisters phone which is the exact same phone to my pc and it worked! so why dont mine does anyone know any solution? i'm beginning to think the phone store put some kind of block on it from being updated? ive tried literally everything! anyone else had the same problem or know a solution

    Thank you

Try to delete all the vendor.xml files on your PC.

    Does mass storage mode work?
What version desktop manager are you using?

Thanks for the reply. I've switched mass storage mode on and my desktop manager is version 5.08.28. Works perfectly with my sisters phone its just the PC won't even read that my phone is plugged into it, but it does charge.
