contact duplicates/numbers re-arranged? it's an email problem

i have the curve 8530 and there is a new gmail thing, where it ask's you if you want to sync your contacts to gmail account. DON'T DO IT.
i did it and two things happened:
1.contact name duplicates
2.numbers re-arranged (other people's number's under the wrong people etc.)

what i did was put all my 'un-messed up' contacts in Microsoft outlook and went to the Verizon store, they told me about the gmail problem, and they are sending me a new phone. when i get it i will use desktop manager to put all those contacts from Microsoft outlook and put them on my new phone.

i suggest everyone with this problem, do it

only if I would've read your post earlier. I did that this morning to find my contact list to be three times as big with bunch of contacts repeated and all mixed with their emails and phone numbers. horrible feature, luckily I did a back up a few days ago.

I did the same a few days ago. The only solution I could figure out to fix it was to wipe emails, contacts, etc option

At least we know what the problem is now...it was a pain in the **** to rearrange everything and I'm still missing some contacts phone numbers... oh well. Thanks for letting us know!

I've warned people repeatedly. Don't sync contacts to Google or Gmail. It does an Enterprise Activation and totally Fs up your contacts. I made that mistake once. Had to wipe phone to get rid of Enterprise activation and restore non-garbled contacts.

This has been posted time and time again.

Wiping isnt the only option thou.

Turning Contact Sync on your Gmail BIS add will prevent the contacts from breeding (yes, duplication is just the tip of the iceberg). Then go to your gmail account and merge all duplicates you find there. Will take time but will work.

Keeping backups of your contacts offline is also highly advised.
