    Default Broken 8520

    Hi,
I've posted this on the Model No forum but with no answers so trying further afield,

Hope someone can help a poor wee girl who's BB 8520 is causing her to loose touch with the outside world LOL
My daughter came to me a couple of days ago saying her 8520 screen was white & would not switch off etc, well I've tried the apploader method but when it's connected it always shows up a USB port instaed of 'UNKNOWN'.
Another method of fix was to delete the OS in add remove programs but the only mention of BB is the desktop program.
If someone could help me I would be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance

Ok, I had the white screen of death on my Blackberry Curve 8900. You may be able to search for it on Crackberry. WSOD or white screen of death.

ANYWAYS, the solution turned out to be my battery. After 2 years of use my DX-1 battery was toast. Phone power was good, but what a strange effect, because you try to think "How could my battery cause white screen!?"

I would suggest trying a new battery. You can either borrow from someone with similar phone model to test it, or pick up a battery on eBay for less than $10 (like I did).

I bought some batteries and never had the white screen of death again.

If you can test it, that would be better since I don't want you to spend money on a battery, just in case you have a different problem. Does the phone seem to charge ok? It works well for a while and then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, it just goes to a white screen and freezes like that, right?

    Let me know please!

    Hi,
thank for your replies, the 1st method doen't work as I've already said that when the USB is connected I don't get the chance to click next while it says 'USB-UNKNOWN', when I connect it says 'USB-PIN 23994E75', then asks for the password confused:

As for the battery method I can't try untill the weekend.

Any other sujestions are welcome LOL

    Thanks

that means its working. when the PIN shows up and prompts the password, type in the password for the phone. after that you should be able to load the OS.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply,
After I click ok I then put the password in which then takes me to 'device application selection screen' which has in greyed out writing,
THE BLACKBERRY DESKTOP SOFTWARE DOES NOT HAVE BLACKBERRY DEVICE SOFTWAE FOR THE DEVICE THAT YOU CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER. CONTACT YOUR WIRELESS SERVICE PROVIDER OR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR.

    Sorry to be a pain,

    Thanks
