Unhappy blackberry upgrade

so i recently got a unlocked blackberry curve 8520, it didn't come with blackberry os 5 so i figured i should load it on there...... (skip all the toughness i had), all right i'm updating using dm to os 5. everything goes perfect till this last little part at reboot. it says connecting to device (this might take 30 minutes) after about 2 hours it says "the desktop loader is unable to connect to the device" i get no error on my phone screen, in fact i can use my phone perfectly (txt call and stuff), but the problem is there are no games or downloads (im not sure if theres supposed to be downloads in there originally, if not that's ok then, but if there are then i want them). i don't know what to do, i even left it overnight to update and same thing. Last time this exact same thing happened, i pulled after the second "the desktop loader is unable to connect to the device", then it didn't recognise my phone. but after a while it recognised it and wanted to update. my sim card is in there and everything and i am on tmobile. please help!

I experienced something similar when I was upgrading my 8520 from 4.6 to 5. I honestly can't recall exactly how I was able to do it. If my memory serves me right, I initially had BB desktop manager download and install the upgrade, and that's when I encountered the same problem. (Was it what you did also?)
Anyway, I read a post somewhere (can't recall) that it would help to download the OS upgrade manually and install it on your PC. That's what I did. When I connected my 8520 to the PC, the Desktop Manager informed me that there was an upgrade available. I then upgraded the phone with the local upgrade file (on my PC). It did take a while but it went through properly.
One thing which we may be missing here is that an IT policy might be limiting/hindering you from performing the upgrade. I'm sure other experts can shed more light, but based on my experience, the previous IT policy installed on the phone (when it was still a company phone) limited me from performing installs and modifying settings to my phone. You may want to check that out. Also, you may also want to contact your carrier. They probably have technical support who may be able to assist you. Mine had and they were a lot of help.
I hope this helps you in some way with your upgrade.
