    Default BB protect prob 8520

I have just downloaded the superb BB Protect and on my 9780 it works perfectly. I downloaded it for my son's 8520 on my account and all works well apart from the "view current location" option. The message and loud ring work perfectly but all i get is "unable to detect this device" This is when they are sitting side by side, using the same carrier and gprs. (no 3G at my home) Can anyone help?

Also note the 8520 does not have built in GPS.

    Default protect

Yes he does have an active data plan. Wasn't aware of the lack of gps. Does the fact that he can get directions via google maps not suggest some sort of gps ability? If not, that could be the problem

    Default It uses cell towers

Google maps will use the cell towers to triangulate a location (estimated) if it does not get a GPS signal. It is just not as accurate.

You can usually tell if you try to locate your position and are within 2700 to 5000 meters, then it is using cell towers. If it detects and uses a GPS chip the accuracy will be 3-7 meters.

Blackberry Protect does require GPS for location.

    Default BB Protect

Thanks guys, that clears up my issue and also explains why Google often places him at a point across town. He was using an old 8900 (now water damaged) which had more accurate placement. Presumably, that had gps
