Battery life ???
I am curious... How is everyones 8500 battery life? Mine absolutley sucks! This phone is about 2 weeks oldand my battery will last for about 5-6 hours max before the low battery signal comes on. I have not even been using it for anything besides texting... no apps or anything running. I even went to radio shack where I got the phone and had the battery replaced... anyone else have this problem? like today I took my phone off the charger around 12 and by 530 it was just about dead.... Its kinda annoying

If a new battery is not fixing the problem then maybe something in the device is draining the device. I would get try to get a swap unit. I used to have a 8530 and it lasted me about 2 days with Wifi on for about 3-4hrs/day.
Back to black.

1) Are you running the latest os, 5.0.0.459?
2) You probably have weak signal a lot of the time, which drastically lowers your battery life.My website http://papped.webatu.com - 03-02-2010, 10:04 PM #5
Im a HEAVY user (twitter, facebook, BBM, foursquare & IMs) & I also use my 8530 as my main line for my business so I get a good amount of phone calls throughout the day & i get atLEAST 8hrs of battery life, on a not so busy day i can go the entire day and night w/o a charge and still get through the next workday

One thing that I wish everyone would learn, is that the first couple of weeks the phone is getting used to you as your getting used to it. So after about 3 weeks of regular usage your battery will last a lot longer. I'm a teenager who talks on the phone a lot and text and also uses internet and my battery last the whole day then I charge it at night, but when I first got it the battery was draining in the matter of 5 hours.

Bluetooth will totally suck a battery dry in a matter of hours in my experience. My battery life is nothing short of outstanding with pretty regular use but I only have Bluetooth and wifi on when in I need them. I can go 2 days before having to charge it- that's with frequent internet browsing, texts, and occasional voice calls. Hope your battery holds on for you tomorrow!

This will make your Otterbox or other hardcase useless. Just so you know in advance.
My 8530 has horrible battery life as well. Of course I use wi-fi and BT a lot but I'm only getting 6 hours or so off a charge.
I suspect those that claim the fantastic battery life aren't using a lot of radio capability. - 03-04-2010, 07:15 PM #19
Here's a word of advice: I haven't had any battery issues with my 8530 until today.. when it was 50% after just 3 hours of light-to-moderate use. Normally I wouldn't be down to 50% for at least 6 hours or so. So I checked to see what apps were running ("Switch Applications"), and it only showed that my browser was open.
So I rebooted. That 50% lasted me the rest of the day (5-6 hours) with some to spare when I got to a charger. My only guess is that, since I hadn't done a reboot or QuickPull in a couple days, there was something running in the background that never fully shut down and it was KILLING my battery. I remembered that I had loaded a large video file on my phone the night before, and it locked up for a minute and I had to 'END' to get it to go away. So I don't think it ever truly stopped running.
If your battery is draining super fast, reboot. - 03-05-2010, 07:37 AM #20
Yeah I'm not entirely thrilled by the 8530's battery life. I usually have it off the charger around 8am and I need it charged again by at least 6 or 7. In retrospect, this is actually good. I'm sure once I get the .459 update ill be doing even better.

Mine is the same way. I had an 8350i and the BB Batt lasted me all day at work and well into the night before I put it on the charger. This 8530 I got does good to last me 8 full hours before the battery turns orange with the one bar of battery left. By the time I get home from the gym (another 90 mins) my BB has usually shut off the radio due to not having enough juice. I do like the phone though.
Was told to make sure the backlit is 10 seconds, not to use wifi that much and to turn off apps that I don't need. That seems to help somewhat.
Edit -- and the sales guy at Sprint threw in a skin case for it since I was a hockey fan and I live in Arkansas. I have to take the skin case off the phone for it to charge or the slightest bump will cause the charger to fall out. I like the skin case as it keeps the phone from getting scuffed, but the smaller charge port doesn't seem to be as able to hold the charger in as the larger ports for the other BBs. My 8350i I never had a problem charging it with the skin on, but the 8530 I do.Last edited by ColdSunshine; 03-05-2010 at 02:46 PM. Reason: More info
God save us all. Go Sharks.
Yes, I am a woman and I like hockey. Deal with it. - 03-05-2010, 05:51 PM #22
The 8350i is a whole different ballgame though... It uses the iden network so it's literally like having your phone on an entirely different network type and speed, which will change the bettery life.
Also the skin/charging problem sounds like an issue with the skin, not the phone. The skin is probably interfering with the charging port plugging in completely. My website http://papped.webatu.com
