Allow me to introduce me.
Howdy people,
Just got a new blackberry 8530 from Boost, (old I know) enjoying it so far, I came from an android. Never have owned a Blackberry before, so I figured why not? So I figured I'd check in here and start seeing the ins and outs of blackberry ownership. Any recommendations would be helpful (apps, whatever) I have but 3 questions:
1. I can't Access app world from my computer, I have the browser plug in installed, my phone connected, everything is updated...any else suffering this issue? I'm using chrome if that helps.
2. The map app sucks, it just shows a green screen with diagonal lines, and a red dot which I assume is me. GPS is on, anyone else have this prob?
3. can I download apps outside of appworld?
Thanks for your time guys, Hopefully Owning a blackberry will be a enjoyable time for me. - 07-01-2012, 01:31 AM #2
Welcome to the CrackBerry forums. Answer to #3 is yes, you can download from sources other than App World. In fact, in the top banner you should see a link to downloads for some useful and popular apps.
Dunno what app you're using for GPS, so unsure what you're dealing with. Google maps is available for BlackBerry, at least the last time I looked. Most of the map apps I've used on BB weren't nearly as rich as they are on Android. - 07-01-2012, 09:21 PM #4
As a former 8530 owner, I will say...its a pretty solid phone (I've had mine for 3 years and it still works great).
I don't know about your PC issue (aint had a computer in years)
I love the free 3rd party apps for BlackBerry (their everywhere)
As to your BBMaps issue...it sucks...some say BBMaps has gotten better in newer builds (can't say). I wouldn't recommend leaving the house relying on BBMaps to get us ANYWHERE (including next door). AGoogle Maps works pretty good on the 8530 (I used it A LOT, nevigating around Vero Beach Fl. on my scooter <I'm disabled>)...good luck and enjoy.Sent from my AWESOME S3 w/JB - 07-02-2012, 02:40 AM

Thanks, for the welcome guys, I will say, having never owned a blackberry, on the surface, it sorta reminds me of my old nokia 6682, (my first smartphone (sigh)), anyway, anyone know of some good pool/bowling/golf games?

Welcome to CrackBerry, man! I recommend using Opera Mini as your browser too. Here's the link m.opera.com just open using the native browser on your BB and I like Google maps for my Curve. Also, be sure to check out the themes section at the top of the page, there are some pretty nice themes for the Curve
Oh and check out the BeWeather app, it's pretty nice.

Welcome to the CrackBerry Community! I hope you enjoy your new 8530 and enjoy the BlackBerry experience!
I own a 9300 with OS6 so the map kinda looks better. But IMO the map app isn't "that" bad..
It's usable enough and it doesn't really look pleasing aesthetically, but it'll get the job done.
Yes you can get apps outside of app world and maybe getting the BlackBerry desktop software will help?BlackBerry is my phone of choice. No other phone gives me the same experience that BlackBerry does . - 07-05-2012, 01:11 AM
