8330 vs 8530
The 8330 is much more expensive thatn the newer 8530 (with wifi). Does anyone know the reason for this other than the 8530 seems more flimsy?
Thanks. - 04-07-2010, 01:29 PM #2
What is your source? 8330's are free everywhere that I've seen them and the 8530 is like 50 bucks where I've seen them.. Even my 8530 was free..

RIM definitely show improvement in all their phone series over time. The 8530 was engineered to cut production cost, fewer moving parts and enhanced processor that has wifi and bluetooth built in are some of the many feature this phone have evolve from the 8300 family.

Well I do know it's more flimsy. I'm looking at both models right now and I can clearly see that is the case but that can't be the reason for the price difference.
At Bell you can buy the 8530 outright for $399 yet the 8330 is $549. - 04-07-2010, 02:42 PM #8Blog For God

I will always be partial to the 8330. I think that the original curve is solidly built. I think that the reason it seems better built because it used to be the best Blackberry at the time. The new curve was made as an entry level device.

I just wanted to say I love my 8530. It's a sexy beast.
- More storage than the 8330
- Has WiFi
- Has the new trackpad
- OpenGL (3D Graphics)
- Faster than the 8330
- Came with 5.0 out-of-the-box
- Micro USB vs. Mini USB
- Media Buttons
- Sure people can come up with more...
For the record my mom has a 8330.Last edited by Seven.07; 04-10-2010 at 09:03 PM.

Given the choice always go with the more current device. The 8530 is worth it
for the app memory and WiFi alone.
8330 - 8530 side by side comparison - 04-11-2010, 02:28 PM #12
Its just my opinion, and i sell sprint phones, that the 8330 is a buisness phone and the 8530 is a "Look what my mommy bought me cause im obviously the coolest girl in high school" phone. Thats just me. Its been labled the poor mans blackberry and looking at it it was built for status seekers rather then people who want to actuall USE the phone.

Imo, my 8530 doesn't feel flimsy at all! It just feels different. Its faster and is supported more than the 8330. I say people need to update their 8330 prices and stop under rating the 8520.

i've had an 8330 and a tour i chose my 8530 over both hands down! it's all on what works for you. it's not about status seeking. it's about what you want in a phone. the wifi alone as a great addition and i use it all the time because my 3g in my home is horrible. also the media keys are awesome and no other bb has them. i hated on my 8330 trying to turn the volume up on a song i was jamming out to and accidently changing the song. the 8530 elimanated that. the trackpad is sweet to. i was all to tired of replacing 8330 trackballs. just my opinion.

The 85xx series is just a larger version of the Peal 81xx/82xx series.

K bear. I think you are wrong about this, but that's just my opinion.
The speed difference is huge! Design is different. More supported. Better app memory. Trackpad. I'd say the 8330. Is a bigger pearl. Just my opinion.
You see people picking 8520s over tours not 8330s or 8120s

Well, "thats just you" really. I use a 8520 (that one can easily say is even more of a entry level device than the 8530) for business and it works well. Way better than my friends' iPhone and Android (sorry I don't know which Motorola he has). Just because it is being advertised as a "social" device and it has media keys, does not mean a 256mb 512mhz BlackBerry won't do well on the field it was DESIGNED to work on.
Let's see: Geared towards the entry market? Right, both fit there, each at it's moment. Not marketeed as a business device? Can't tell about the Pearl as I didn't know much about smartphones when it was released, but I suppose we can say yes to that as well. But refear back to my reply to CarissaW91 and explain to me how a device that closes the specs of many high-end BlackBerries is just a "larger version" of the Pearls.
Makes a lot more sense since they match pretty much all specs.
And right again, I would understand if K Bear was dissing the 8530 against a 9630/50 or 9000/700.
No kidding RIM is losing market if their own user base and resellers don't not understand enough of BlackBerries.
EDIT: Think I should also add I had a 8310.Last edited by diegonei; 04-11-2010 at 07:42 PM.

The Pearl is an entry market device. It was geared toward the consumer market and was produced to meet those customers needs much like the 85xx series is today. Yes, the 81xx series do not have the spects of the 85xx series, but as far as how the product is marketed, they are similar.

Many things in this world are marketed similarly. For instance, we have nintendo ds and wii are marketed similarly. This does not mean they are the same. They're both entry level gaming systems for the average consumer. I believe its the same for the blackberry 8520 and 8100. Especially since they are of different "generations" If you will. The 8530 is very similar to that of the bold or tour, regardless of its marketing strategy.
However, were all entitled to our opinion here.
