You must have data plan. Why?

A friend's LG sucks majorly and I wanted to give him my old 8330. We're both on Verizon. He doesn't have or need a data plan. Verizon said that he could not use my 8330 without getting a data plan because that's the only way the 8330 works. Is this some BS or the truth?

without a data plan he can call and text

with a data plan he can email, browse, bbm ,etc

i would call back and talk to someone else, they can not force you to take a data plan.

I just want to be clear here. Verizon said the phone would not work on the network without the data plan as the OS for phones that are smartphones is what the runs them.

Verizon will NOT allow a BlackBerry phone to be activated on their network without a BlackBerry Data Plan.

You will NOT be able to "just use it for call and text".

You MUST have a BlackBerry Data Plan. Period. There's no work around.

The Verizon representative was giving the CORRECT information.

They absolutely can and will "force" you to have a data plan.
