My delima is my son has unlimited text and I have the data plan.
is there a way to text back and forth without me adding text charges to my phone. He is 13 and you cant talk to him he knows it all but if you text him he will answer right away LOL..

The person at the AT&T store was wrong. Both of your phones
need to have a Data Plan. With that, both AIM and Yahoo will
use data to send and receive and you will not incur any
    additional charges.

That part I can't answer. I use both as IM programs and not for
text. You should still get clarification on the data issue. I believe
that regardless of how the message is sent you will still need data
    to make the initial connection.
