I just bought 3 BB Curve 8310's unlocked from Ebay. I previously used LG Shine's with voice plan only. I switched my sim card and my Curve works fine for voice. I called AT&T to ask about the BB Data Plans and told them what I had done. The rep told me AT&T will more than likely see that I am using a BB and automatically charge a data plan to my account. With 3 BB's at $30 each data plan in addition to a $70 voice plan I'm looking at a $160 a month bill!! Has anyone else encountered this?

As of September 2009, AT&T requires a data plan on BlackBerry devices activated on their network.

Does my changing my sim card from my LG Shine to my Curve mean that I activated it on their network though? When I signed my contract 15 months ago I bought and signed the contract for 3 LG Shines with a voice plan only. I understand that if I bought the Curves thru an AT&T provider that they force you into the data plan, but I bought mine new and unlocked outside of a retail store.

iv had data blocked on my ATT account for years
to avoid the accidental button push costing me money.
    [my contract ended in 06]

i bought a used att 8310 about 6 months ago and put my sim card in.

it does exactly what i bought it for...
    voice and sms

i was told it was unlocked when i bought it

    it was not

about a month ago att gave me the unlock code
    for foreign travel

to date- my bill/account has not changed

this may be because i am without contract...
