    I have old 8300 sitting around I'm going to give to a friend, but he was asking if it might get the 5 OS in new year.

    I said no, because it's such a slow device. But he's heard otherwise :\

    Anybody know for sure?

    More than likely not since those only have 64MB of APP RAM right? 5.0 is like 70MB already without apps. The 8330 got a beta because it has 96MB.

    It is confirmed that 8330 is the only 83xx phone that will get an official 5.0 OS. As said, it has to do with the amount of memory.

    I checked for updates today through desktop manager and to my surprise, my 8330 got an available update to 5.0!!!

    Is that the 5.0 Operating System or the 5.0 Desktop Manager? I looked on the Alltel site and don't see anything above 4.5 available for Operating System.

    It is the os v. 5.0.0.230
    I was very surprised to see it come up when i ran the bbm.
