I will start by saying I am sorry if this has been covered before but I tried a search and came up with nothing.

I am a new owner of a 8310 and I was just wondering if there is some type of unlock code/crack so that you can get Wi-Fi as well as GPS capabilities.
I saw the 8320 has Wi-Fi and is pretty much the same thing as the 8310?

8310 does not have WiFi, however it does have GPS, check the logo on the top of your phone. You just need to get a program that will allow you to utilize it for free. Nav4All is a great GPS app...BlackBerry Maps is another good one, however to unlock this with AT&T you have to go into an .alx file to get it to show up on your phone. If you google Optimize Your BlackBerry's Memory, you should find instructions on how to unlock it. Seeing as you are new, I would just try Nav4All for now because its a simple download/install.

You can download the BB maps from their web site and it works without doing anything to your Curve. Just ignore the message about AT&T and download it.

So do you still have to have the data package to use either of these Nav4All or BB maps and if so is it real time?

Yes, as far as Nav4All goes yes.
I have never used BB Maps so I can't speak to that one.

Well you can buy the 8320 and the buy a gps receiver (keychain GPS are pretty popular) and you'd have the best of both worlds...

Or you can wait a little bit for some suprises from at&t... :-)

i'm using an 8320 with the Freedom Keychain 2000 GPS and it works great. Google Maps reports 'within 20M' but it's always been on the more accure side of that range. It's got me on the right side of the creek behind my house and gets me places, and either google maps estimates the road i'm supposed to be travelling down on the fly, or i've just never had a bad signal.

it even works in the center console hooked to a car charger

But if you're on AT&T you can just wait for the Bold next month, or this month or whatever, and get both all in one device hehe.

Any GPS apps that are for nautical navigation? i.e. Setting waypoints and saving favorites spots etc.

GPS works with AT&T. It isn't locked down. as others have mentioned... google maps and other software works with it.

but... Yeah.. WI-FI doesn't come on the 8310 as mentioned by several.
