    Why would i want to unlock my BlackBerry 8310(Curve)?

    What are the advantages and disadvantages if any?

    so that you can use it with tmo
    right now, if you were to pop in a tmo sim card into your curve, it wouldnt work
    but if you unlocked it then put the tmo sim in, it would work

    Main advantage:
    so you could use other GSM carrier on your curve.
    This is especially advantageous when you are traveling overseas. The International rate will kill you, just ask Kevin Michaluk ( the owner of the forum)
    By using "local" sim2 on your unlocked phone, you will not have to pay the outrageous rate that your carrier charge for international call.

    Disadvantage:
    the new carrier will not support you if your curve malfunction/ need replacement.

    Thats basically it so if you need it unlocked go for it. It wont hurt.

    An advantage would be that if you sell it someone on another GSM network could use their sim in it. Other than that if you don't need to unlock it, don't worry about it.

    I agree with wrasnack. It's not going to help if you're within your home area or if you plan to switch carriers.

    Unlocking does improve the resale value, if at some point you want to upgrade....
