Just got my Verizon Curve 8330 last week and have upgraded OS to 4.05.77. Everything is working fine so is there a compelling reason to update again to get 4.05.89?
If you are happy with .77 and all its features, why upgrade? its just a personal thing, and IMO tooooo many new folks to BB jump the gun, maybe down the road you may want too, but IMO, if you are pleased with your version, stick with it.
Alot of people upgrade, to have the *latest* some upgrade to fix problems, some upgrade for newer features..(between, 4,2, 4.3 and 4.5)
The only reasons I upgraded my phones was to increase my memory capacity. My Pearl and my Curves came with extremely outdated OS's. If you're happy with it then don't bother with an upgrade. In other words, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I am a BB newbie and have followed the instructions for the upgrade but just can't get myself to do it. What is the worst can happen if I botch up the install? I'd hate to have a phone that i can't use
If you dont feel comfortable right now, DONT do it, its not a necessity!!
The worst? You can brick it, it most likely CAN be bought back up, but you wont be a happy camper in the meantime, all panicky and not really in the right frame of mind to read correctly and thoroughly ALL the steps needed to recover a dead berry..
Upgrading is not has hard as you would think. Just make sure you back up your phone before you begin the process. Also make sure to read all the instructions before you start upgrading. The main reason I switched was for the HTML email which I love.
I am more of a lurker than anything else, but have had a BB for a long time now.
I havent seen any specifc upgrades from .89, but my curve is much more responsive than before with .77. I also havent seen the speakerphone bug yet, although I have seen others that still have it. Overall I am happy with the upgrade thus far!
I upgraded to .77 from VZW, and have no problems. Until the new os has been out long enough to work out the bugs, I don't see any reason to "mess with it."
Like they said, If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well said wetwilly. If your 4.5.0.xx is working fine, and it's a release from your carrier, there really isn't any urgent need to upgrade your OS to just get a higher version number.
the main reason to upgrade, IMO, would be becuase of the ability for the new OS to accept 16 GB memory cards. I believe all OS 4.5.0.81 and UP are compatible w/16 GB, whereas below .81 are only upto 8GB
I've decided that I'm only going to load an official VZW OS unless another carrier OS is released that fixes a problem I'm having. Right now I'm running .77 and am happy with it.
I just got my Curve last week and it still has 4.3. What am I missing out on if I don't upgrade to 4.5? Will my themes still work on 4.5 or will I have to find different versions of them?
