If I can't this will be the first cell phone I have had that doesn't allow me to charge while in use. The only indicator is the light in the upper right of the phone. Can anyone advise me on this, please.

I use my phone while it's charging all the time. I work from home and keep it plugged in while I use a headset to talk to clients all day: I can also talk on it while charging in the car.

When you are on the phone, the charging indicator does not show up while it is plugged in?

I am able to talk on the phone while it is charging...

Exactly! I would get another USB cable also like rachel said, then if that doesn't work, you may need to try calling tech support ( but under NO circumstances, should you tell them you are using it while charging, something about it should never be used while charging- I guess its in the book ) and see what they say...
