Im kind of new and I keep reading that blackberries are horrible for being memory hogs, how do I know that I am maintaining a good amount of memory?

You're fortunate to have an 8330. You have 50% more memory to start with than any other user with an 81xx, 83xx, or 88xx phone. As long as you stay above 12 000 000 bytes free, you'll be fine.
