using vixy.net, I downloaded a file that I had uploaded to youtube of my house during xmas.
anyhow, it downloaded it as an mp4 w/ (mpeg4+AAC)

Video plays great on the device, but with no sound.
I am at a loss as are a lot of friends.
I was thinking of taking the video file into super and going from there.
Any ideas?

I use media converter add on for firefox. It downloads the videos into .3gp. Works great. Sounds like your need the right audio codec or you can try to convert the file to .3gp

RB, or should I say RRB....I tried mp4tomobile, but only get the audio.....no video....I am so struggling with this.....

This also happened to me. It worked once before, but now I get no sound. any comments?

I use Mediacoder (free) to convert my movie/video files to .3gp with the following as my settings:

Video:

Bitrate based 450 kbs
Format: XVid
Container: 3gp

Audio:

Nero Encoder
22050 kHz
Profile: LC-AAC
Rate Mode: Target BitRate 24 kbs

Picture:

320 x 240
Crop: Disabled
Frame Rate: 15 fps
