As anyone had a problem hearing a background hissing noise from the earpiece (only) when making a call? I returned 1 already for this problem and I have it on the second phone.

could very well be a network issue, these blackberrys are not your typical cell phone, so then tend to work a bit different on a cell network, try to reprovisoin and if it does not go away talk to a tech from your provider, cause if you had the same issue on more then one phone, I would think its unlikely is a phone issue and a network issue

Try updating your PRL (Preferred Roaming List) by calling *228 Option 2.

Any other ideas? I already have returned 2 phones, first one the camera froze the phone, the second one had the same hissing sound. Its not loud, just annoying.

Which OS are you running? I don't know if it'd be something similar but speaker blast can be a common thing with certain OSs. I had that problem myself, upgraded it, and the problem was solved.

I don't think I've ever heard of hissing being a bug with an OS though...

I had the same problem it seem to start from having volume to loud. My earpiece speaker had blown but the speakerphone sounded fine. Called VZW and they had a new one to me. If i turn my earpiece speaker up it still sounds distorted but when I put the volume in the middle (standard) position its better. These have to be the worst earpiece speakers I have ever had on a phone.

The problem is with my connection (not with the speaker) as I used a pair of headphones and I still heard the probelm

    Any suggestions?

Contact Verizon customer service, they may be able to troubleshoot the problem if there is a network issue.
