A friend has a Curve he will give me for free and is having it unlocked. He is on AT&T. I use Sprint. My daughter really likes my Curve but has an Instinct and can't upgrade for a while. Will the AT&T Curve work, if not is there anyway to make it work?
Yes, its a gsm network, they can work on CDMA networks, now CDMA devices (sprint, verizon alltell) cant work on GSM devices (tmobile, at&t) so you have the right idea lol go for it.
Sprint and AT&T use two different types of networks and the phones have to be compatible with the networks. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to an AT&T phone to make it work with Sprint. AT&T phones can be unlocked and used with other GSM providers, like T-Mobile or any of the carriers outside of the US, but not with Sprint, I'm afraid. If you really want to use the Slvr, you would need to port (transfer) your number and service to AT&T, otherwise, you won't be able to use the phone. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Dont ask me how, I just know gsms can be unlocked to work pretty much world wide lol.. it works. Its a big reason why people stay with gsm networks when they travel overseas, they can unlock them and use any sim card for that country.
To the OP, accept the generous offer of your friend's 8310, then sell it on eBay. An unlocked BB is worth more than an unlocked BB, so price it acccordingly. Then buy a Sprint 8330 for your daughter. It has to be a Sprint branded 8330.

Yeah cdma is only here in N. America the rest of the world is on gsm. Sprint has some phones like the 8830 that will work on either because they are cdma with an option for a sim card. Mostly Sprint and verizon and some small networks are cdma....
