Sprint and verizon both use cdma right? Can a sprint phone be unlocked and used on verizon or vice versa?

Or does the fact that sprint phones don't use sim cards mean that another network's phone can't work on it?

nope, they aren't interchangeable like that. IF (and i am using that word lightly)

If you got one flashed, the opposite carrier wont run an unfamiliar device esn on their network, or give you technical support

What's the point of the law requiring carriers giving you the unlock code if other carriers won't accept the phone? A buddy got the unlock code by calling his carrier, so that he can have his berry put on a german carrier when he gets stationed there in Jan.

    So he's screwed too?

Sprint's policy is to only allow Sprint branded devices on their network. Period.

the unlock code is in reference to GSM devices where a sim card is used, there is no law in CDMA products. Sprint and Verizon are CDMA so they are not subhect to that law.
