I'm using the CD that came with it and it acts as if everything is installing but then I get an error message that read: "Error 1720. There is a problem with this windows installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Please contact your IT" and so forth...

There's also a link on the CD that connects me to the blackberry website to download the latest version and I did download it but when I run that program al I see is a "Blackberry device manager" a window which contains the "Blackberry router configuration","about","Device connections" and "Statistics" but does not give me an option to synchronize or do anything

Be sure you download the one that says "Bundle" or you'll just get the Device Manager.
