This has been covered in a few different posts already, but I thought I'd add this pseudo-solution to the list of quasi-fixes already out there...until someone pulls their head out of their *** and stops the message madness from a network level!

So...if you want to disable the annoying SMS (text message) notification for incoming voicemail messages, you can do the following:

Go to: options > security options > firewall

    Then do the following:

Under status, ENABLE the firewall. Tick the SMS option. Then tick the ADDRESS BOOK CONTACTS and SPECIFIC ADDRESSES options.

    Then do the following:

Hold the track ball over the SPECIFIC ADDRESSES box and click it. You can then enter any phone numbers that you want to receive SMS from that are not already in your address book.

Make sure to save your changes before you exit.

This procedure will allow you to receive SMS messages from anyone in your address book, as well as any numbers you allowed under EXCEPTIONS.

    IMPORTANT NOTES:

    1. If you have your own number/voicemail listed in your address book, this will not work. Delete your own number from your contact list.
    2. If you want to receive SMS messages from people who aren't in your address book, do not do this.

I know this is a bit confusing, and menus may vary slightly from device to device, but this worked for me.

    Good luck.

Hmm, I don't mind the notification. But I will save this. Might come in handy.
    Thanks.

This may have been covered elsewhere, but does Verizon charge you for each voicemail notification if you don't have a text messaging plan?

    Thanks.

pornocow, I tried this, but ran into a problem (the bolded part below)

Under status, ENABLE the firewall. Tick the SMS option. Then tick the ADDRESS BOOK CONTACTS and SPECIFIC ADDRESSES options.

    Then do the following:

Hold the track ball over the SPECIFIC ADDRESSES box and click it. You can then enter any phone numbers that you want to receive SMS from that are not already in your address book.
I dont get the bolded part. When I click the box, it just unchecks it. Click it again and it unchecks it. No options come up. I tried hitting the menu button and choose "configure exceptions", but I just get a NO EXCEPTIONS SPECIFIED message.

    Any help? I have a 8310 with OS 4.5 (at&t)

I've never gotten an SMS for a voicemail notification. When I get a voicemail, I get a popup with 2 options, OK or Save. If I pick save, it puts a reminder in my SMS folder, but it's not sending me a message.

There's also usually an option when you get someone's voicemail to send a page, which will send an SMS.
