Its for the hearing impaired. I'm sorry I cant provide any more details on it. Did you go into your phone options and enable hearing aid mode?

Since a person can not hear, they use the dial pad to talk.

I installed Vlingo today. Voice activated app...that's probably why.

Could be why. I don't use that app so I wouldn't know.

As Lex said TTY (Tele Typewriter) is a communication device
    for the hearing impaired.

It can easily be removed by going to
    c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loader files\8310...\java and delete the following file:

    net_rim_phone_tty_enabler.cod

Then open DM, connect BB, click app loader and step
    through to the end.

On a Sprint phone to access TTY from the
call log > options > hearing aid mode > mode enabled (mine is NO)

Didn't you use CrackMem. If so then that cod file was probably
deleted so you won't have the option. I think

Yeah that would be easier, I almost never use DM except to
update so never think of that.

Hey Guys, I've been following this thread and wanted to ask if any of you experts can help me out. The RIM Bold website shows that the Bold has telecoils! But, the same procedure you show for TTY does not show Telecoil as an option (does show TTY). If it's possible to turn off TTY is it maybe possible to turn on telecoils? I'd buy a Bold in a heartbeat if it had T3 or T4 support. Phone is pretty much useless to me without telecoils.
