IMO xplayer is free only because it's cheaply made. I had it and with bugs and such it is not worth it.. even free...... I agree, most software now days is a trial ver. then pay.... but the ones you pay for they work and work good....
Is there even a good one that you can buy. I would very much like a better player and have Googled quite a bit. Now I am reaolved to wait for 4.5 in order to get playlists.
Stoner, you are right good software costs money to design, code, test and market. Imo it is an insult to the development team to ask them to give away their creative and technical efforts for free.
I know that I don't do that in my work and I bet that none of you do either. We all gotta eat.
IMHO miutunes is the best out there! $ 40 is a bit high for a media player but if you're really into the MP3 player function it is a sound investment. Xplayer is good if you want a freebie.

MiuTunes is very nice to look at, and works great except for the fact that the remote control functions of my moto stereo BT headset wont work with it.
Honestly, i am quite happy with the OE media player. all functions work great with the stereo BT functions, and though it doesn't do the neat "coverflow" type graphics, it does display cover art.
... and yeah, to me $40 is a lot of $$$ to spend on music software for a phone.
Well said mightyjohn I'm also very satisfied with oem media player. It foes everything that I would need it to do. For coverflow and other goodies I have my iPod Touch.

Creating and bringing a product to market takes a huge investment in time and resources.
If the result is given away, there is no justification for spending all the money it takes to create it.
Most applications will offer you a free trial period, but not free software ....
IMO you make his question sound unreasonable.
So there's no open source community developing for the blackberry i take it?
Cause crazy as it seems, there has been some pretty cool stuff people have worked hard on and given away for free. Like stuff from the Mozilla Foundation (Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird), the Linux kernel, and Goog411, just to toss out a few.
