Text messages or SMS are limited to 160 characters. If you plan on writing more than 160 characters you should either send an e-mail or MMS.

Uh. Let's see. You just basically stated that you want to know if you can see the number of characters sent, indicating you could not. So how would you know if there were 160 characters or not?

It should show at the top of the screen as you type your text message and lower with each character.

The op means an indicator on incoming txts, which there isn't.

Copy and Paste or you could just count them

Or paste them into a Word document. Word will count the characters.

For incomming msgs they don't have a counter so as mentioned before copy/paste or manual counting is the way to go. All letters, spaces, and punctuation count towards the 160 limit.

@GrandMasterB: I remember at one point Verizon had released phones that had enhanced sms capabilities; in other words you could send/receive txts that were more than 160.
