- me and my dad are new proud owners of blackberries, and for sure we're loving them so far. the funny part is that no matter how much i try to convince him, my dad doesn't want internet on his. sounds crazy, but i guess he's content with a gimped berry.
anyway, going back on track, so i'm filling out the forms for our $100 rebates, but in order for my dad to qualify for it he needs the blackberry personal plan. i told him, and he definitely doesnt wanna pay 30 a month for something he wont be using all the time. so my question is...could i just sign him up for the blackberry plan, get the rebate, then later just cancel the BIS without any hassle or hidden fees from AT&T?02-21-08 09:30 PMLike 0 - Yeah most providers require that you sign up for a data plan to receive the rebate. They do manually check your account when they receive the form, too. You should be safe to remove the feature after you receive the rebate card. The rebate form does not specify a period of time that the feature must remain on your account, either.

02-21-08 11:17 PMLike 0 - Sorry for the double post...
If you read the fine print of the rebate agreement that you sign it states that you must maintain the agreed upon data plan for a minimum of 6 months. If you cancel before the 6 months is up they will charge your account $100 for breaking your contractual obligation. You will still get the rebate in a few months but you'll be subject to the early termination penalty for canceling early. It all there in the contract you sign you just have to read it. I'm just trying to save some trouble. I had a coworker do this with his blackjack and he was charged for canceling his data plan early.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com02-21-08 11:39 PMLike 0 - I find no where in my rebate form stating anything that I have to stay on the plan for any amount of time for the rebate. just that I have to have one.02-22-08 11:41 AMLike 0
- The person that I talked to said that I could cancel the plan at any time. They wait 30 days before they process your rebate because you have 30 days to test the phone. The salesman said they don't like you to cancel your plan so soon because it affects the salesperson's requirements for the month. but if you have to keep it for 6 months and you dont want it it's not worth it. $100 rebate, $180 data plan for 6 months02-22-08 01:48 PMLike 0

- The rep that I spoke with at att told me that it has to be on the phone for a year. No worries though I would not want a bb without it02-22-08 08:12 PMLike 0

- i was told at the store that i needed to have some sort of data plan ( text msg ) to get my rebate as well. After my bill doubled in just a few weeks, i called up customer service. I gave told them the situation and they stated that I did not have to have a data plan to get the rebate. The rep clearly stated that the salesman was pretty much trying to pad his commisions, and that she was very sorry. She took off the text msg plan and gave me credit on my bill.
If you go to the att website and browse the current customer phone deals, they say nothing regarding a data plan to get your rebate.

I just mailed in a rebate form to AT&T this morning for my Curve. My form DID state that to qualify for the rebate you must have a BB Personal plan or one of the $45 or more data plans to qualify. I did not see the 6 month's requirement, but I may have missed it. For me personally, the 6 months would not be an issue as I definitely want a data plan for my BB.03-05-08 03:25 PMLike 0 - From the AT&T website. To find this, scroll down to the BB Curve. On the right of the screen you will see the price, less rebate. Click on the blue writing on the rebate line, then click the link to the rebate form which will bring up a pdf version of the rebate form. You can then view the whole form. The portion below was copied and pasted from that form. Looks like AT&T has covered the bases on this issue on the website and on the printed form.
The form also tells whice retailers selling the phone are excluded. Based on this, we MUST have a data plan to receive the rebate.
*Requires activation on a PDA Personal Plan or a $45 or higher PDA data rate plan or a $20 or higher messaging plan plus an AT&T Voice Plan of $39.99 or higher.
**Requires activation on a Blackberry Personal Plan or a $45 or higher Blackberry data rate plan or a $20 or higher messaging plan plus an AT&T Voice Plan of $39.99 or higher.
+Requires activation on an applicable data rate plan of $60 or higher03-05-08 03:36 PMLike 0
