- Hi everyone! I'm a brand new BB user who is very frustrated trying to switch all of my data from my Palm T/X to my new Curve. I love my new phone but am finding the switching process has been very difficult. I've spent the last few days and many hours tonight trying every solution I could find on this board and on the RIM site. Its after 3am here and I need to get some sleep!
I *am* making some progress though.
Let me explain what's been happening. First, you should know that I am using Windows Vista and I have the 4.6 version of BB's DM. I also have the most recent version of PALM's DM - 6.2.2. (It took me several tries to get this working on my PC as well.) Anyway, I plan to use Outlook to sync my Calendar & Contacts, etc. (Though I'm not sure why you couldn't keep "switching" your Palm desktop info. with your Curve directly. Could someone explain?) When I connected my PALM T/X and my Curve to my PC and started the switch "wizard" the selection to do the switch from PALM to BB was not available (in other words, it was not highlighted for me to click on). As I wrote, I did some searching of previous threads first.
I *tried* to export and import my PALM Addressbook & Calendar files directly into Outlook. No luck. I then *tried* to save the Addressbook file as an EXCEL file, so I could add the correct column headers and import into Outlook. No luck, plus that was very confusing!
Next I *tried* to uninstall my current version of the PALM Desktop 6.2.2 and replace it with the older version, 4.01 - as suggested several times on these boards. Well, once I did that, I did not have the correct device driver to even HotSync at all *plus* the correct choice on the BB DM was still not highlighted. So, I tried uninstalling 4.01 and moved to the next version after that. That installation didn't even make it half-way through.
Finally, I deleted all previous versions of PALM Desktop and reinstalled the current 6.2.2. I had to do this twice. That worked. I HotSynced the Palm itself to the Palm Desktop *and* Outlook, for back-up. Then I was able to synchronize that with BB's DM (again, the current version 4.6). Only problem is that my Palm will not sync the CALENDAR/Datebook into Outlook correctly. So, all the Calendar/Datebook info. is still on my Palm Desktop program and in my actual handheld BUT I cannot seem to get it into my Curve, either by getting it to Outlook or "switching" with the "so-called" wizard.
I need serious help before I go nuts! I know once I get this all done I will love using my Curve - but I need help! Please don't tell me I have to try importing/exporting to the Excel file again. That was a disaster. I don't understand why the Switch Wizard doesn't work as it is supposed to.
Please HELP!08-27-08 02:26 AMLike 0 - Yikes, no one has replied yet and I'm going nuts because I need my Datebook info. on my Curve. Can't anyone help a poor soul?08-28-08 10:23 AMLike 0
- Your best bet would be to export the data from palm desktop as a .csv file. Then import that .csv into Outlook. Once the data is in Outlook you will be able to sync it to the Blackberry.08-28-08 10:36 AMLike 0
- Thanks, but my problem is that when I go to export the Datebook it only offers me the option to save it as a *DBA (date book archive). All the other files, like the address book and so on, allow me to save as CSV if I need to - but not the datebook. I'm not sure why. I don't have the option to choose any other type of file for the date book. I'm using the most current version of the Palm Desktop. I wonder if the older versions allow you to save the date book as a CSV file?
Any other ideas?
I'll keep trying!
PS: I was just up in your area last week!08-28-08 10:44 AMLike 0 - After hours and hours of uninstalling and re-installing, searching message boards and talking to Verizon Wireless support (no help), I FINALLY was able to make it work! I tried downloading the free trial versions of Pocket Mirror and Key Suite from Chapura with no luck. I also downloaded the free version of ACE Utilities, as recommended on the Palm boards. What finally worked was shelling out the $29.95 for the full version of Pocket Mirror.
I know some people recommending making sure that you have no dates on your Palm that go past midnight - but that would have taken forever to figure out. I can now finally go forward, just using my Outlook and my Curve.
I sent an email to Verizon letting them know how disappointed I was that the Switch Device Wizard did not work with my T/X. If it only works with Palm Smartphones, which may be the problem, it should say on their specs. sheet on the website. Also, it said to plug both devices in at the same time on the DM, but the tech. support person said you are supposed to try one at a time. Regardless, it never worked.
Just wanted to share this in case anyone else is searching for the same solution. I could have saved hours if I'd done this before - but I shouldn't have had to after buying a new device.
Thanks! Now I can move on to the fun stuff!08-31-08 01:10 PMLike 0 - After hours and hours of uninstalling and re-installing, searching message boards and talking to Verizon Wireless support (no help), I FINALLY was able to make it work! Windows Mobile, obviously, had the BEST syncing with Outlook. Instantaneous syncing, no problems with doubling contacts, nor altering of calendar appts. The WM5 OS just sucked . . . memory (had to reset the device every other day), skinning the device, though, was second-to-none.
Blackberry seems like is syncing very well with Outlook. The e-mail functionality is second-to-none. It's becoming my favorite smart phone.
Anyhow, glad things worked out for you in the end.08-31-08 02:16 PMLike 0
