There I sat, installing 4.5. At one point in the installation, I looked down at my phone and saw it boot up to the dreaded circle, slash, and "507".
I started to wonder if someone was playing an incredibly elaborate practical joke.......but then after about 10 seconds, it booted and re-connected to my computer. If it had choked on that Java error, I would have about barfed. I've dealt with that one before.
It's hilarious to me that there are people on this board who think there is some moral high ground from which an OS release is blessed with the holy water of the Carrier of Their Choice.
(Jazzee, this isn't directed at you, your post just helped me gel some of the things I've seen in the forums over the past couple of weeks.)
Beta software has existed since the dawn of software. Without it, software companies would have to employ leagues of testers (see: Micro$oft) just to try all of the iterations and situations they can think of.
Some of us have volunteered to be guinea pigs with various software releases throughout the years, driven by different purposes. Some want to see new features as soon as they exist, some know their systems well enough to know how to fix them if they break, and others just have fun doing it.
Ah well, that's enough for one evening. My brain is tired, my OS 4.5 is doing fabulously, and I'm looking forward to another fun day tomorrow.
I don't think it's that we are 'blessing it with holy water' or anything, we have patience and really don't need unofficial releases jacking our phones up. It may not, but you can't guarantee that 100%. When I'm telling RIM, "well as I installed your OS 4.5, my Berry went POOF." I don't think that would sit well with my carrier or manufacturer to want to replace it.
Sorry if I've offended anyone, that wasn't the intent. At times I tend to forget that I'm probably a bit deeper into these things than most. So, my apologies to the masses.
It is all good, and I'm having more fun than a piece of sand in the bare woods with the pope. Hee.

Heh. I'll let you know, Adlen. Seriously though, if you're looking for some particular 8320, let me know. I'll try not to trash too many with 4.3 or 4.5....you know, video recording, better browsing, better email.....all things that make for a trashed phone.
