    On my Curve (Vodafone) i only seem to get a GPRS icon. what is the advantage of "EDGE" and how do i get this service?

    You would see "edge" if you have a data plan.

    ...And you can add it by contacting your provider and asking about the data plans they offer.

    I have a data plan !!
    phone only arrived today. so wonder if they have changed something. as on my HTC (JUNK!!) i had a price plan etc

    Menu -> Manage Connections -> and make sure that "Mobile Network" is checked.

    I am in the UK on 02 and my phone alternates between EDGE & GPRS, both work fine.

    There is a difference between EDGE and edge. edge means that ur not able to use data. That's why in the recent outage of the att data network thingy, my phone showed edge and not EDGE. This is also explained in the curve manual.

    half-a$$ed comparison:

    gprs - dial up
    edge - dsl
    3G - broadband

    can't wait for a 3G bb

    anyhow, edge is just a faster data network, maybe you don't have edge service where you live? do you live in the woods?
