I just bought a Treo 800W and the only reason was so I could use the modem for my laptop. I really want a BB 8330, so here is what I will use it for:

    1. I cannot access my school at work, so I needed to use my personal laptop which is why I wanted to modem feature. If I went with the 8330, could I work on my school directly on the 8330? I am sure it would be hard, but I am not sure how much of a screen I could see.

    2. General web surfing

    3. Listen to music

    4. Email

    5. Talking

I will get my Treo on Monday, but I can return it within 30 days.

Also, I am paying 39.99 with Sprint for 5GM data and to tether my treo. If I went with a BB, would I pay more or less than this?

Finally, can I get wifi on the 8330 like on the 800W? Is it really needed?

Dolfin, you CAN use the 8330 as a modem also. Instructions can be found in Curve 83XX forum Titled How to Use your BlackBerry as a modem. No wi-Fi but you can still tether.

Definitely save yourself from the POS Palm, especially if you value your sanity. Treat yourself right. And you will need to inquire about any data charges and how they are applied on your account.

Haa I was in the same boat...I have the 8330 now but before it I had the 800w for about 2 months. I say get the 8330 and you will have no regrets. It feels a lot less fat in hands than the 800w and handles email a lot better, has waay better battery life (as you know the 800w drinks battery power) and you can use the 8330 as a modem through Smartview a sprint program. Its simple just install it on your laptop and connect your BB then you will be good to go.

If you have any more questions about the transition feel free to PM me or post in this thread.

I bought the phone over the phone, can I exchange it one for one in the store without any issues or do I have to send it back in order to get one in return?

I would def go with the 8330. I have 2 BB's and i absolutely love them both. I have owned many diff smartphones and i can say that i have not 1 thing negative to say about my Curve. Granted it doesnt have wi-fi but i think the BB browser works just fine. I would highly recommend returning the 800w and getting yourself a BB.

With EvDo RevA Wi Fi is stupid, unless you are in a no reception area, which rarely happens I think. and BB is always the superior machine compared to a palm these days.

the curve is Ace, I went from a curve to a storm to a curve again. just cant seem to let go. such a stable device. nice keyboard

I beleive youll need a specific BB data plan, so the data plan you have with the treo may not suffice.

I already have a voice plan, so I could get the unlimited for 30.00?

$30 if you will just use the blackberry.

not sure about sprint covers tethering, might be higher price for that.

Sprint does not offer tethering officially with the Simply Everything plan ($99 and no "add-on" charges), and up to this point they have been ignoring tether use if you are not abusing it.

Works great with my Curve 8330, a Macbook and a Lenovo S10.

Def glad to see you went with the 8330. Like i said i think its one of the best devices ever made. I actually am now considering rounding out my collection and purchasing a Pearl 8130. Patiently waiting for the Bold on sprint to be released.
