    hi i bought a used unlocked bb 8310 from a second hand shop, put my sim in it fine, works as a regular phone but when trying to set up instant email or blackberry messenger an error message appears i have phoned t-mobile who say that i have to get a hold of the original owner to cancel their account b4 setting up mine :s i have no way of getting in touch with the original owner is it true that this is the only way???? thanks any help much appreciated!!

    Yes. They have to release the device.

    As long as the blackberry was not reported stolen, you should be able to contact RIM directly and have them make the switch for you, or call T-mobile tech support, and they should be able to do it from their end.
