i'm relatively new to the forums..and it seems like you guys have answers for everything!..is there any way i can get my screen to light up when i receive a txt msg?..rather than having to hope i catch a glimpse of the flashing red light if i'm at my desk..any help would be greatly appreciated =)

Not an option for that! There are some 3rd party notification apps, but I don't believe any with an option to light the screen.
Others on here may know of one.
