I did a search and couldnt find anything that answered my question.

I just recieved a new curve 8330 and still have old text messages saved on my other Curve and wondering if you can save those messages to the SD card and then just switch it over.

Do a full backup before you switch, or use the switch device wizard it should transfer over all your info and messages from that backup.
