Once people get past the novelty, they always come back to BB!
We get so much variety with our berries!

I must say I DO love the browser and the size of the browsing on the iPhone but c'mon- there's no keyboard! That's the only thing I like about the iPhone and it's not worth switching and paying a few £100 more for THAT and then loosing all the stuff I get on my BB!

The headline should read, "BlackBerry's Apple Killer: UMA"
3G is an evolutionary step forward, UMA is a revolutionary leap.

| | I dislike these comparison threads and convos on iPhone Killers.... Neither is killing off the other. Apple is gaining as well as RIM in market share.
Windows Mobile Killers, yes!
I will get both iPhone v2.0 and BB 9000/8900 or whatever they want to call it. Both will be great devices. |

What irritates me is that whenever anyone mentions a touchscreen BlackBerry, it is always assumed that it will be touchscreen ONLY. The blog you linked to mentions someone at RIM talking about the inability to type well on the iPhone, then makes a sarcastic remark that it's only because it's the iPhone, but it will all be ok when it is RIM's own device. Did you ever think it could be touchscreen AND have a hardware keyboard, ala Palm or HTC, or even LG with their Voyager?

I posted this purely because I felt that it might be of interest. I had no agenda other than that.
As regards the touch screen, I sold my Sony Ericsson P1i which had a keyboard and a touch screen when I got my BB. I found the combination wanting. It was very confusing to be forced to use the stylus for some functions and then to use the keyboard for others. Using shortcust was a pain too cuz you had to really look at the screen rather than just hitting a key.
Against the iPhone, there really is no comparison. The iPhone has a great browser and is very good at media but beyond that, it is a typical Apple product.

I def. like BB over the iPhone, but the iPhone does have its perks. The browser on the iPhone is extremely nice. But the stuff you have to do on a phone on a consistent basis just isn't practical on an iPhone.

I'll buy a touchscreen BB ONLY if it has a slide out qwerty keyboard. And honestly, would it have killed RIM to put the memory card slot somewhere easier to get to it? I hate having to yank the battery out to get to it. Maybe a slot on the side or something?

I do lust after the iPhone - the screen is just gorgeous, browsing 10,000 times better than my Curve (Wi-Fi helping tremendously there I'm sure) and there are certain things that a touch screen just does better. Drawbacks? Keyboard drives me nuts (yeah, the software does an admirable job of compensating but RIM truly made the best thumboard on the Curve IMHO), it doesn't boogie with my Exchange server natively, no external memory of any kind and the battery is $100 and 3 business days to replace (adding the ridiculous 'rental phone fee' in there). Having said all of that, when v2.0 gets here June X, I will seriously be drooling over it. I have to remind myself that "economic stimulus check" does NOT equal "toy fund"! | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
