I had been reading a few threads where the USB port on some devices become loose with the charging thru there, so I have decided to buy a dock.
Which, in your opinions are some of the best ones, and also I have a silver hard case i bought from this site, so I would like it to still fit it without taking the case off...
I just got the little silver cradle that the phone just drops into and it works great. I have a few mini usb chargers laying around from other devices and I'm going to buy another from the store here at Crackberry to use a work. I don't sync my phone very often, and I plan to buy a new Laptop with bluetooth to sync that way.
I was reading some reviews here on some of the cradles, I think I will just go into a store to try them out with the case I have though... hmmmm decisions lol
As to the case, I think you will have to remove it to mak it fit the cradle. I have the Best Skins Ever covering on my two phones and they only just fit the cradles and BSE is very thin.
Seidio makes a cradle that will charge the phone with the innocase or other Seidio skin on. The cradle comes with a removable insert. Leave the insert in, it charges a "naked blackberry". Take the insert out, it carges a "skinned blackberry". It will work with other "skins" that aren't super thick and have cut outs at the charging contacts on the battery door. The innocase/ belt holster combo from Seidio is a nice combo.

The OP was looking for a way to charge without using the extremely fragile USB port. The only way to do that is to use the two gold contacts at the back of the phone. Any cradle that syncs and charges must therefore use the USB port.
is there any dock that charges and syncs at the same time?
Why does my blackberry not charge when i have it hooked up to my computer?
Surely it can pull juice?
Do I have to enable anything?
BlackBerrys require as much juice as single USB port can supply.
Many here have found that USB ports just do not charge their phones. The best way by far to charge your phone is by using the original BlackBerry wall charger. This charges faster and gives longer battery life that any other charging method. There are numerous threads in here that attest to this.
Remember that the USB port is really only there for maintainence. BlackBerrys on BES (RIM's largest customer base) sync OTA. If you use a cradle to charge with, the USB port is not required day-to-day. Remember too that BIS is a relatively new addition to RIM's product portfolio.
