not sure what you mean by standby mode, but if you don't wanna be notified of an incoming text go to profiles and select none for sms.

How do you not know what standby mode is? It's the button on the top you have to hold to stop the keyboard from activating in your pocket.

I don't want to turn it off I just don't want texts to knock me out of standby mode. I still want a vibration when I get texts.

How about using the keyboard lock instead of standby?

Sorry, you can't change that. You might need to use the keyboard lock if this is causing you problems.

Incoming calls or sms/mms notifications bring the BB out of standby mode. You'll have to press & hold mute again to re-enter standby mode again. As suggested, use keylock.

Do you use a program to light up the screen with text messages? I have autostandby but have taken off my SMS Display on, so it doesnt wake up, just alerts me...

    Yea, I use BBLight. What's auto-standby?

if you take off BBlight, then it will not wake up during a text.

Autostandy - a 3rd party app that automacially puts my phone to sleep if i forget too after my own predetermined time once the screen blanks, its great.. so this might be another option - if you like it lighting up, then autostandy will put it back to sleep, other than that.. BBLight is whats making it come out of sleep mode.

That.... makes a lot of sense. Now the question is, is it worth the light-up on text to be knocked out of standby mode?

BBlight is free, take it off for a bit, see how you like it, or disable, then see which way you prefer best.

Well, the only BBLight functions I have activated are:
    -on external power
    -on text

I guess I'll just turn off on text.

I've never had my 8330 come out of StandBy for texts, MMS, e-mail or any other notification. Phone calls yes, messages no. And I don't have any 3rd party apps like BBLight installed.

    Rachel,

How is Autostandy different from just pressing & holding the mute button?

Oh - OK... I thought it might be doing something differently than from just activating standby automatically. Pretty cool
