I'm about to buy my curve, but I have a really important question first. At my college in Canada, in order to get on the school's wifi network we have to log in with our student ID and password into something called "Cisco Systems VPN Client". Is there a way to do this on the blackberry curve? (because I think I want to spend a bit more and get the 8320 through RIM)

I've heard that Cisco is releasing a VPN client for the Blackberry, but so far I haven't found much information about it.

Your college IT department is the place to go for that info. Do you see any professors with Blackberrys? If so, then IT has a way to make them work. Whether they make that available to students is something you can ask.
