When I had my 8700 it had a feature when I pushed the power button for a second it would turn the screen on/off each time pressed. Is the curve capable of doing this? I haven't seen this option yet.

Top left of your BB there is a recessed button that will put your phone into standby.

Incidentally that same button will mute your phone calls.

On a similar note, I wish the mute key...did more. Same with the volume rocker and the speaker phone/$ button.

Just comparing the button functionality to normal handsets which seemed to have this perfected.

I've noticed the Standby mode; what exactly does that do? Can I still receive calls when in Standby?

Yes, it's just a screen shut off. It also means that you cannot press any other button accidently to turn back on your phone. Think of it as a Lock mode, with a combo.
