I had to have my 8330 replaced. The replacement has the .77 OS on it. In your opinion, should I upgrade to something newer? If so, what and why? What would be the advantage to doing it?

    Thanks.

The only difference I noticed was the ability to run BBM 5.0

Hmmm if you want BBM 5 then upgrade to a higher OS otherwise everything else should be pretty well on par with the newer OS's out there. (At least from what I can tell I am currently running 4.5.0.138 with bbm5)but that is just my opinion

I would suggest updating to the newest os out. 4.5.0.169

I loaded it last night on my girlfriends curve and of all the different OS's Ive loaded this one seems to be the best. Better overall performance

Wait for the official release of BBM5 or you might be one of the ones who complains something doesn't work after installing it.

as long as you do it right you should be fine. I have BBM 5.0 on both of my BB's and no problems at all.

Upgrade upgrade upgrade. Newer OS usually more stable and usually has more free memory.

Upgrade. I am running a .160 hybrid with 4.6/5.0 files an have much more free memory and better performance. You can find it in the beta/hybrid os forum.

I totally agree there when I was running .77 no speaker blast for me either. I did want BBM5.0 so that is why I updated the OS. I recomend that unless you have patience stay with the BBM you have BBM5.0 can be a bit of a trouble maker at times.

Ahh, but it is a known issue with .77. Perhaps you are one of the lucky ones, a lot of people complain of this problem(speakerblast) with .77.

Well, this discussion certainly settles the issue for the OP! LOL

p.s. I have .77 and find it stable and without the "speaker blast" that often seems associated with that build.

Avoid .138!! It has a lot of issues, do a search of the Curve forums. The most stable OS option for VZW users is Sprint's .131. The other option is the .169/.131 hybrid. I believe xliderider's signature has a link.

Of course you could just stick with .77. I haven't upgraded yet, as I don't have speaker blast issue.
