    If I update to .131 or .160 (I think those are the newest ones) will it unlock the GPS function on my VZW Curve? Or will I still be restricted to BB Maps and VZW Navigator?

    Afaik you're screwed for gps on vzw. Its bbmaps, vznav or nothing.

    Ok so one last question...I deleted BB Maps before I realized that VZW locked it down...

    If I put BB Maps back on my phone will an app like Poynt be able to pick up my GPS location as long as that is installed?

    Dunno, never used poynt, but like I said afaik no 3rd party gps apps work on vzw.

    Poynt will use the cell triangulation to get an approximate fix and then use bb Maps for the directions and GPS functions.

    It works really well IMHO.

    You can also buy a bluetooth GPS keychain receiver, commonly referred to as a "puck". Then you can use any third party GPS application you want.

    I've seen various models for sale starting at around $35.
