    ...is it necessary? I do it every time i fully charge but nevery really understood why. why do we power cycle? i just do it cuz the sales person told me to. and should i hold the power button for 10, 15 or 30 secs? ive heard all the above??? does it matter? thanks. very new to cell phones in general.

    Power cycling is recommended for regular phones. It helps reset them. It's totally not necessary for BlackBerry devices.

    And holding the power button on a BlackBerry doesn't power cycle the device anyway.

    You should monitor your free memory (Go to Options > Status and read the third line.) If it gets below 12 000 000, then you should do a Battery Pull (remove the battery with the device turned on) or reset the device by pressing ALT+SHIFT+DEL.

    Doing a battery pull will clear the free memory and reset the device. It's analogous to rebooting a computer.
