Possible upgrade from 8330.
Hi,
My BlackBerry Curve 8330 has died, and it is time to choose a new phone. I have replaced its trackball twice, its battery once, and its charging connector recently broke. Although the 8330 was inferior in speed to the new BlackBerries available, I fell in love with its large keyboard.
Unfortunately, being in Canada and restricted to Telus, the choice is limited to a Curve 9360 for $29.99 with a 3 year term, a Bold 9780 for free on a 2 year term, a Bold 9790 for $49.99 on a 3 year term, or a Bold 9900 for $99.99 on a 3 year term. Also, I may be able to find a refurbished 8330 or take over one’s contract with an 8330.
Which would you recommend, considering the keyboard is most important? Moreover, has anyone had issues with the capitals key? It looks half the size of the 8330. I was content with the 8330’s power and assume the others are all more powerful.
Basically, my question is what would you choose in my situation?
Thanks!BlackBerry Curve 8330, running Version 4.5.0.186, with an Otterbox Defender case --> BlackBerry Bold 9900, running Version 7.1.0.267 - 05-14-2012, 08:58 PM

Can anyone offer his or her opinion?

I recommend going to the local Telus store and checking if they are on display. See for yourself. Alternatively, the largest keyboard currently is the 9900 which oddly enough is the same size as the original 9000. Keep away from the storms, dont let them fool you by the "Torch" name, the Torch is is the slider style device.

You can definitely find another new 8330 on eBay for around $50 or less without getting a new contract. If you were satisfied by the power and speed of the 8330 and liked the keyboard, I would get another. But if you don't mind getting into another contract, then I would get the new Bold. it is the best BlackBerry available in my opinion.

Go with the 9900. Go into Telus and test drive any BB you can... I began with an 8330 and you will absolutely love the 9900. Huge jump!

Go with 9930 Bold
I started with 8330 and really liked it. From there to Storm2 and liked it for a year. Then to the 9930 Bold Touch. Bold 9900 or 9930 are the best BB ever including keyboard, browser, speed, etc.

Ouch, 3 year contract?
If you can afford it, i would suggest buying a 9900/9930 off ebay or amazon for about $300-$350.
That way you don't have to start a new contract & save your upgrade for BB10

Go with the 9900 Bold. I was using a 8330 as well for a long time before upgrading to my 9930/9900. I'll tell you, its a WORLD of difference and you won't regret the change.
I actually just picked up my old 8330 today and was surprised by how different and squished the keyboard feels compared to my 9900. Get the 9900, you won't regret it, its a great phone! Fast, sleek, amazing! Touch screen is great as well. You won't regret it!
PS,
If you do get the 9900, do yourself a favor and buy it on contract through your carrier. I know people don't like contracts and such but I get so tired of hearing stories of people who bought from ebay or craigslist just to have the phone die (for whatever reason). Even though the initial bricking issue seems to be a thing of the past thanks to OS 7.1, buying from your carrier makes swaping out a defect device 100% easier and faster all around.Last edited by StumptownBold; 06-10-2012 at 12:53 AM.
