No Blackberry mail set up.

Only Gmail.

PROBLEM

Lovely envelope icon on top of screen shows "5" emails & nifty casette icon next to it shows "1" voicemail.

I have no unopened e-mails and no unheard or saved voicemail.

I have rebooted - removed battery - cold booted, the notification icons never go away.

I want to fling the poor little thing against a brick wall.

Anybody know how to get rid of these annoyances?

I don't know about the email icon. But for voicemail I have noticed that in the messages log that if you don't open the message indicting new voicemail it will leave the icon even if you have listened to your voicemail. To clear the icon just look for the most recent messages for voicemail in the message log and open and/or delete them. It is also possible that opening each email message may clear the messages the BB thinks have not been viewed.

Try doing a battery pull.
While the phone is on take out the battery for 30 sec then put it back on.
