Is there a way to save and open (and routinely access) a PDF file on my BlackBerry 8330?

No. PDF files need to be opened with the following programs:

    docs2go or
    beamreader or
    repligo

and then, there is this. It works, I installed it today.

    Cheers.

Can't you just open the attachment, assuming it it sent via email, and then save it? I do that with my PDFs and I don't have those programs. I thought there was a doc reader in the BB OS. Under the DM itsn't it the attachment files along with the OS?

You can read PDF's only through attachments, but as a viewer where you can just open up a PDF document directly from your phone, no.
