I am about to purchase a Sprint BB Curve 8330. Should I expect it to be running OS 4.5 already or would I have to update the OS myself after purchase?

    Thanks.

It should be running 4.5 already. But if not its an easy process to do. Take a few minutes and look at the link in my signature for proper upgrade/downgrade procedure. Welcome to CB.

It should be running 4.5 but I'm not sure of which 4.5(.131, .138, .77, .160 etc) if the bb is new to you use whatever os comes on it for a month or so, get used to it. Then if you decide you want(or need) to upgrade you can use any os available. While the os is released by certain carriers they can be used on any carriers bb. The os is devbice specific but not carrier specific. Just read the sticky for your device and it will walk you through upgrading to the most current os.

I run the .160/.131 hybrid you can find over in the os beta section. It's phenomenal in my opinion. Barely any lag and great phone function.

    It should come running 4.5.0.131

This is a good, solid OS. Much better than the 4.5.0.160 OS that is stickied at the top of this forum IMO.

Agreed, even the .131 OS for the Pearl is very stable, I would use this OS...

Personally, I've found a small bit of lag in the 131 on the MEID 8330. I keep trying others, but end up coming back to the 138 OS. Fast, decent battery as long as I don't browse all day, and stable.

Triple agreed.....very solid advice from those two. They can keep you on track, they first hand know more than my general knowledge of the specific device.

I'm actually amazed that people are buying the 4.3 versions still. Sprint has been shipping the 4.5 since march

I am a believer to get the most from your carrier to run their latest os and stay away from the hybrids unless you really have problems. Sprints os is very stable..

I am a BB 8330 newbie, I tried to download the bold theme but, my os is only 4.2. but I'm seeing everyones os is a 4.5. why is that? plus I have a mac, and the upgrade 101 read that i basically will have issues upgrading. now what?

I got my BB Curve last Friday from Sprint and it came with the 4.5.0131. I like the advice that some one mentioned about using it for about a month and if needed, upgrade. Sounds like excellent advice.

This is my first smartphone and I too love it. With the Everything Data package, it is fantastic.

One thing I would do, first thing is download Bolt for your Browser. It is fantastic and so much better than the OEM Browser that comes with the Curve. Best thing about it is Bolt is FREE.

Good luck and I am sure you will be really delighted like myself with it.

I've had my curve about a month, it came with 4.5.0.131 and it seems stable. You may find you have problems with the GPS, there is a guide you can find by doing a quick search of the forums that will help with that problem (if you even encounter it.)

I use quickpull and opera mini on a regular basis. I have google maps as a back up for the telenav (sprint nav) that comes on the phone.

I agree with X the hybrid OS is awesome. Just keep in mind with sprint any new 8330 will be the "m" variant.
