I recall finding a thread somewhere that explained the reasons that OS 4.7 was not being released for the Curve / 83XX series BlackBerry models, but I can't find it now.

Does anyone know where it is, or could just explain the reasoning to me?

I recently remember that only 5.0 would be available for the Curve 83XX series, but then I also remember seeing that the 83XX series will not get 5.0, and they will be stuck with whatever version 4.5 they have.

The only reason not to use DM 4.7 is when updating the OS on your Curve. DM 4.7 checks online for the latest official OS from your carrier. If you are trying to upgrade or downgrade to anything other than that official OS, you will get a message that there are no updates available.

Other than the foregoing, I'm not aware of any issues using DM 4.7 with a Curve.

I'm not referring to the Desktop Manager software, I'm referring to the Operating System software.

The newest Operating System for the Curve is 4.5. The newest Operating System for the BlackBerry is 4.7 and there's a 5.0 coming, I believe. I heard or read that it had something to do with the hardware that we can't get 4.7 or better on the Curve, and I remember a decent thread explaining why. I'm looking for that.

I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that 4.7 was for the 9500/9530 as 4.7 includes files for use of the SurePress.

4.7 is also on the Tour.

I don't know about 4.7 on the 83xx series, but I know for 5.0 it was said that only devices currently running 4.6 or higher would get a chance to upgrade to the new 5.0 OS. Other people on this forum have explained that the hardware on the 83xx series simply wouldn't be able to handle the 5.0, or the phone would end up running extremely slow. The same could be for the 4.7 OS, and maybe even the 4.6 OS.

I have 4.6.0.267 files running on my 8330, along with some 5.0, with the balance consisting of 4.5.0.163 core apps (from a GSM OS for the 8310) . Instructions are in the quote below. The files/links referenced are in this thread:

    http://forums.crackberry.com/f52/833...d-beta-245836/

I did a little messing around with the various files from the Java folders that lyricidal has provided us and came up with another variation.

    1) Started with the 4.5.0.160 OS

    2) Pasted in the Java files from the .rar download link in post #273 (page 19). This gives us CDMA 8330 Curve users the 4.5.0.163 applications with some 5.0 files.

    3) Pasted in the Java files from the 8330 hybrid version in the .rar download link in post #1 (I only used those files with modified dates of 4/7 and 4/16, sort the files by date to make selecting them easy). This adds the 4.6.0.267 applications and files (I think).

    4) Since I am a Verizon user, I also replaced the 4.5.0.160 radio with the 4.5.0.131 radio (rim8330c.sfi file, in the CDMA folder) to fix the chirp issue.

Now my Options > About screen shows:

    Blackberry 8330
    smartphone (CDMA)
    v4.5.0.163 (Platform 3.4.0.25)

And my Alt + Lt Shift + H screen shows:

    Platform 3.4.0.25
    App Version: 4.6.0.267 (452)

I wanted the App Versions to be the highest possible. lol. My sig says it all...

Yeah, my bad. Mis-read your original post. OS 4.5 is the highest for the 83xx series, with 4.6 for the Bold and some others and 4.7 for the Storm. OS 4.6 and 4.7 are device specific (as are all OS's), so they wont install on the Curve. OS 5.0 was to be for the Curve, but based on new models coming out that look like the Curve Mark II, it looks like OS 5 wont be designed for the Curve.

How is the speed? I have upgrade my 8330 to OS 5.0. It is very slow for me. Anyone else have similar issues? Have you done any reviews for 4.6?

    thank you

The speed is faster than regular 4.5, look for a hybrid with 4.5, 4.6, and 5.0 files.

Have you tried the Nathanix hybrid 5.0 os instead of the stock Boost Mobile 5.0?

i just tested last week finally. for some reason, the theme is no longer there after i install the hybrid 5.0. the icons looks ugly and you can't identify what the icon is for what program. is there a fix to this or i just didn't do it right. i was able to make phone calls. the OS seems a little faster, but because i needed the email feature, i reloaded os 5.0 back on...

i used the Nathanix and BBSAK to shrink the OS.

This may interest you. I am running Boost Os and now have 32mb file free.
Let me know how it goes.
